Air Show theme: "Thunderbirds over Miramar: The Sound of Freedom". Gavin Arts headquarters are just up the road from MCAS Miramar and the Gavins have been a participant in base activities for many years. Not only are they regulars at each Air Show but Paul's Marine Corps emblem mural — the largest such mural in the world — is a prominent sight at Miramar. This year, for the first time in 35 years, the United States Air Force Thunderbirds performed at MCAS Miramar, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force. This year's air show focused on the joint power of military aviation.
